A Woman in Her Own Right

The month of March heralds the Annual Women’s Herstory event at Moreno Valley College, the public celebration of women’s history in this country began in 1978 as “Women’s History Week” in Sonoma County, California.

Congress expanded the celebration to a month and March was declared Women’s History Month.

Pastor Sharon Barnes, an evangelist and director of The Healing Center Outreach, Inc. and founder of the Angels Soup Kitchen in Lake Elsinore, California, asked the audience what was their story.

She commented on the struggles being a student, and pointed out three subjects that women and men face even in today’s college era; school, career and the future.

As a minister for 15 years, Pastor Barnes remarks about the prejudice of being a female pursuing her goals, the mistreatment in and out of church, how many of the male spiritual leaders did not believe that women were called by God to lead.

Despite their contradictions Pastor Barnes continued her mission by helping many people that came across her path.

Pastor Barnes has also been on radio for 3 years, ministering against all odds.

She state there are three things everyone need to live by on a day by day basis, and since every page is written individually, every story matters; 1. Staying focused, 2. Choosing your friends wisely. 3. Guard your heart.

"Since emotions can either motivate or hinder where one may want to achieve in life," commented Pastor Barnes.

Barnes is a strong, African American woman who encountered the boundaries set in front of her and overcame them, she acclaimed, that woman today are not to be ignored, and that ambition, strength and prayer go along way.

No one is limited, and neither is she, as Pastor Barnes is currently writing two books, one that is being released June of this year to the public, titled “Real Outreach.”

In today’s world, the doors to the woman’s struggle for equality in the home and work place are thrown open and generations of women have grasped many great opportunities.

Every student need to be aware that there are others support systems that can guide, and support, resources that may be a benefit in that student’s life.

Pastor Barnes remarked, "Enjoy your journey, learn from it and if there will be conflicts, struggles in your life that is part of your life’s book."
