Human Services Program in Action

At the turn of every semester, Moreno Valley College clubs recruit students of every aspect of cultural, educational and resourceful backgrounds.

The older of the clubs that even today still holds the highest college points and outstanding mark at MVC is the Human Services Program.

Founded by club advisor James Banks 13 years ago, the club has grown to endorse both the college’s events and its surrounding community.

As 2nd semester president of the HMS, Michele Gardner, 57, divides her time in helping others and being a full-time student.

Majoring in Human Services/Social Work, she have been an MVC student for a year and half, within that time frame earned herself 5 Academic awards, 2 Student of Distinction awards, and received the bronze, silver, and gold awards for volunteering both on and off campus.

Gardner desires to complete all required classes to become a social worker and avid supporter against human trafficking.

As president, Gardner is involved in the educational and community growth of herself and her club members.

Gardner commented, "Your everybody’s friend but not everybody is your friend."

A tough woman, Gardner lives by the club’s mission, helping others and having a good time.

When asked about the club members participation in the Spring semester college events, Michele replied, "Our members are doing a great job, and on task, I appreciate them."

The MVC Human Services Program is involved in almost every event on campus, a generous supporter of the ASMVC, and its members are students and volunteers, willing to share their time making the college and the Moreno Valley community know that they care.
