A 22 year old student, Ulises Cabrera, takes a kick at enrolling into a karate class at the Moreno Valley College.

Cabrera has been in the beginner karate course for 12 weeks. This has been his first time ever being in a karate class. Cabrera took interest in karate art becauseof his admiration for Asian culture.

In the karate classes, students are not allowed to spar against each other. Cabrera said, “The only hard part is just the physical training that involves breaking through what your body can take, learning body limitations and conditioning your body.”

When ask what motivates him to continue in the class he says, “Getting results, improving, just to keep on pushing myself to achieve a higher level.”

Cabrera says that his favorite move he learned in karate is the side thrust kick. Cabrera continues saying, “My goal is to perfect my movements, pushes and kicks, establish a good form and obtain physical fitness.”

Cabrera is inspired by Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Ip Man.

Cabrera says, “I can apply karate to my life because it teaches me discipline and increase levels for myself that tackles all aspect of the mind, body, and spirit.” Cabrera says that he plans to continue taking karate courses.
